to have said, * that when you go into city hall, you walk up the central staircase. you don't walk on one of the side staircases because for our community, it is so important for us to walk up that central staircase and for us to be in the middle of everything and for everyone to know that we are here. and all these years later, we've made a lot of strides in the lgbt community, but we still have so much work to do around hiv issues, around our youth, around discrimination, around transinclusion, and all the things that we know that harvey had he been here today would still be working on and leading on. and, so, we have to keep doing our work. and frankly, we can't take for granted that queer people are going to keep getting elected to office if we don't work on that and focus on that, we'll quickly slide back. so, we're here today to remember and also to look forward. so, it is my great honor to turn the mic over to our mistress of ceremonies, one of harvey's legislative aides and now the director of emergency management in san francisco and one of my absolute favorite people in city hal

and underinsured vehicles operating as taxicabs in the city. both of these companies prey on the under employed and fib experienced of the city putting them to work in under insured nonlicensed and under regulated vehicles for the purpose of in town point to point transportation for hire. thea companies also heavily promote heavily to their driver during busy time to tell them no special license or insurance is required and the transportation that they are providing is on a for-hire basis. this makes them taxi companies in practice, definitely not ride sharing, especially when these companies are taking 20% of what the drivers are getting paid. both of these companies are publicly claiming that they are exempt from regulation, that they are providing ride sharing. and the moneys collected are donations. however, they are actively recruiting drivers with claims of making extra money and meeting interesting people just like you do as a cab driver. i've seen many incidents reported on one of their internal driver lounges on facebook reporting accidents, extortion up to threats of vie will betionv.

san francisco as the city of innovation and a wonderful partner and friend to ucsf, mayor lee? >> thank you, just briefly the history is worth repeating, is what our lieutenant governor has always said. i need to remind people what i was doing at that time. i was the little dpw director when gaven became mayor and we were still doing that we brought it out to make sure that we did right, in addition to the payroll tax exemption, we are also creating infrastructure at that time. we are working with the developers to make sure that the infrastructure of mission bay was going to meet the standards that uc san francisco and the bio tech industry was saying in order to come here. it wasn't just one thing alone, it was a combination of many things. and investing in infrastructure at mission bay was an enormous task. something that we had to do, public, privately because we did not have all of the money and we had to get rid of one of my favorite institutions the golfing range. as i was talking with former governor gray davis it was worth giving up. it was something ha we did right i

also in cuba so there was all this traveling from one city to another because later when i got my ph.d. from tulaine university and i went to the irish channel. it's interesting, the irish history connected with new orleans. so the o'reilly family has been in louisiana for centuries. in cuba, nobody remembers him but it was the street of calle oreilly, famous until the 50's for its banks and bookstores. it was one of the favorite streets of (inaudible) secretary of the spanish count of fernandino, my grandfather, another irish man feeling at home in havana. there, at the busy corner of calle street and oreilly was a cafe bakery owned by a catelan. it was described by many foreigners, in particular british and irish who lived in havana at the time, as one of the best order and most elegant cafes in the world. its large door led to a main floor with a fantastic stone floor. i saw it in the 50's, i was very little but i still was there in the 50's, and have a fountain that all that water really produce a refreshing sound that drown the patrons' loud conversations. but what made dominica

, the city of san jose has wanted to erase this eyesore located in the heart of japan town. you're looking at basically a five-acre patch of old plant growth, weeds and concrete. instead, turned into something like this. these renderings show how this sight might be revitalized. the recession put a botch on that, but now that the economy has improved, the developer is interested in moving forward. today, the city will decide on whether or not to approve the sheet with williams and dane development. if approved, the developer would be able to move ahead with plans to seal a deal, a deal that would sell this lot for $24 million, allowing the developer to bring this place back to life. the plans call for retail, a creative center for the arts, a green space for farmers and 600 apartment units. >> i don't particularly like the idea of so much wrerental. i'd rather see homeowners. in there, but you know, some things -- i think there is a need for rental housing in the area. >> san jose getting big. a lot of people are here now, so i think it will help this area more. and but it's really quiet.
